The Role

We're looking for a Data Lead who will transform our fragmented data landscape into a reliable, business-driven data function. This isn't about maintaining dashboards — it's about making data the foundation of every major business decision.

You'll work directly with C-level executives (CFO, CPO, CTO, CMO, CBDO) to ensure data translates into actionable insights that drive growth, product innovation, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Build & Lead

  • Lead a team of 4 data engineers (mix of senior and junior, Riga-based + remote)
  • Establish standards, processes, and best practices for data delivery
  • Define the long-term vision and roadmap for data at Paybis

Transform & Deliver

  • Assess current data infrastructure, identify gaps, and execute improvements
  • Design scalable data architecture and warehousing solutions
  • Build reliable reporting systems that enable self-service analytics

Partner & Influence

  • Translate business problems into data frameworks
  • Challenge stakeholders constructively when requests lack clarity or alignment
  • Turn raw data into compelling narratives that drive executive decisions

Requirements

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • Track record of building a data team from scratch or completely rebuilding an existing one
  • Background in fintech, crypto, payments, or banking
  • Experience in startup/scale-up environments with messy, fragmented data
  • History of managing teams of 3-10 data professionals

Technical Skills

  • Deep knowledge of modern data stack: dbt, AWS, Microsoft Fabric
  • Strong data architecture & modeling expertise (dimensional modeling, DWH design)
  • Experience with high-volume transactional data
  • Hands-on capability — you can jump in and solve technical problems directly

Leadership

  • Proven ability to work autonomously and build proactively
  • Strong stakeholder management across multiple business functions
  • Skill in communicating complex insights to non-technical audiences
  • Comfort challenging requests that don't align with business priorities

Languages

  • Fluent English (с1)
