Forward deployed Engineer

London · ClaimSorted
£80K – £150K
Apply

ClaimSorted helps insurers outsource claims end to end – a service called Third-Party Administration (TPA), a ~$200B industry. We combine a strong in-house claims team with our AI-enabled platform to deliver up to 3× faster claims, better service, and better economics for insurers.

Backed by Y Combinator, Atomico, and Eurazeo, we’ve raised $15M+ and already manage claims for over $100M in insurance premium across 30+ MGAs, including more than five publicly traded companies. Our goal: scale to $1B and become the most valuable TPA in the market.

This is a full‑stack, customer‑facing product engineer (forward‑deployed) role.

You will sit at the intersection of engineering and customer success: you will talk to client teams, understand their workflows and constraints, and then design and implement the systems that power their claims operations on our platform. You should be equally comfortable jumping on a call with a VP of Operations at an insurer and diving into a Node.js service or a complex SQL query right after.

You will:

  • Engage directly with customer stakeholders – from technical teams to operations leads and executives – to understand business processes, edge cases, and integration requirements.
  • Design, build, and maintain systems that support critical customer operations (FNOL, claims triage, payments, reporting) and fast, reliable onboarding of new clients and products.
  • Work across our stack (Next.js, Node.js, GCP, Postgres, Terraform) to ship end‑to‑end features: APIs, data pipelines, internal tools, and customer‑facing dashboards.
  • Own customer‑specific configurations, workflows, and integrations, turning fuzzy requirements into robust, maintainable solutions.
  • Deliver accurate reporting and actionable insights for customers and internal teams (claims performance, SLAs, operational bottlenecks).
  • Proactively identify product gaps and lead initiatives to improve our platform based on customer feedback and observed behaviour.
  • Help shape our forward‑deployed engineering function: processes, playbooks, tooling, and best practices as we scale.

This is not a pure presales or solutions architect role: you will write production code most days, while also being the engineering face of ClaimSorted for a portfolio of customers.

Tech stack

Our current stack:

  • Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript.
  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, microservices.
  • Data: PostgreSQL (OLTP), caching, analytics/reporting pipelines.
  • Infra: GCP, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD.

Responsibilities

We expect you to be productive in this environment quickly; prior experience with exactly the same stack is less important than strong fundamentals and ability to learn fast.

What you’ll work on (examples)

  • Designing and implementing a new onboarding flow for a large insurer, including data mapping, validation rules, SLAs, and custom reporting.
  • Building and exposing APIs that integrate our claims engine with external policy admin systems, payment providers, and fraud‑detection tools.
  • Creating internal tools and workflows that allow claims handlers to operate 3× faster without sacrificing quality or compliance.
  • Analysing real‑world operations data with customers, identifying bottlenecks, and translating them into product and process changes.
  • Hardening and scaling services so they remain reliable as we onboard more enterprise‑scale customers and increase claim volumes.

Requirements

Must‑have

  • Strong full‑stack engineering experience (we expect you to be hands‑on in both frontend and backend).
  • Solid experience with modern web stacks (ideally React/Next.js + Node.js + SQL databases, or similar and willingness to switch).
  • Ability to design and implement clean APIs, work with relational databases, and debug production issues across the stack.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (comfortable speaking with native‑level customers; ~C1 level).
  • Enjoy being customer‑facing: you are not afraid of calls, workshops, and direct feedback from non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, high‑velocity environments with incomplete specs and shifting priorities.
  • Ownership mindset: you care about business outcomes, not just tickets; you’re willing to go the extra mile when needed.

Nice‑to‑have

  • Experience in B2B SaaS, fintech/insurtech, or other regulated domains.
  • Background with high‑load or distributed systems, complex data workflows, or integration‑heavy products.
  • Exposure to Terraform / IaC, monitoring, and production operations.
  • Previous experience in forward‑deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or similar hybrid roles.
